Blog > SpaceX is Coming to Vermilion Parish!!
Well Acadiana…the secret is officially out, and apparently we're getting a new neighbor.
And this one is a little bigger than your typical economic development announcement.
SpaceX is coming to Vermilion Parish. 🚀
When I say big, I mean $100 BILLION big.
SpaceX has announced plans to build Starbase Louisiana near Pecan Island, a massive campus expected to become the largest spaceport in the world, with the capacity to eventually support thousands of launches each year.
Now, here's the part that really caught my attention as someone who lives, works and sells real estate right here in Acadiana:
🚀 3,000+ direct new jobs over the next 10 years
🚀 8,100+ additional indirect jobs
🚀 $92,600 average annual salary for the direct jobs
🚀 More than 34,000 construction jobs projected at peak construction
That's potentially more than 11,000 new job opportunities throughout Acadiana before we even start talking about the temporary construction workforce.
Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the first launch targeted for as soon as 2029.
So what does this mean for Acadiana real estate?
That's the million-dollar question—or I guess in this case, the $100 billion question. 😂
Think about it.
Those workers will need places to live. They'll eat in our restaurants, shop in our stores and use local services. Their families will become part of our communities. Contractors, engineers, suppliers and supporting businesses could bring even more people and investment into the area.
And this isn't happening somewhere across the state.
It's happening right here in our backyard.
The proposed campus is expected to eventually include five launch complexes with two launch pads each, along with fuel production, power generation, vehicle processing and even housing for SpaceX employees and their families.
There are still plenty of questions to be answered. Roads and infrastructure, environmental impacts, housing demand, insurance, development and how our communities prepare for growth of this magnitude are all things I'll be watching.
But from a real estate perspective, I'm especially interested in what happens with housing demand, land values, rental properties, new construction and commercial development throughout Vermilion Parish and the surrounding Acadiana communities.
We've watched South Louisiana reinvent itself before.
Oil and gas helped shape generations of families here. Could aerospace become part of Acadiana's next chapter?
We'll see.
But a $100 billion investment right here in Vermilion Parish certainly has my attention.
One thing is for sure—Acadiana may be entering a very interesting season. 🚀
I'll be watching this closely and keeping y'all updated as we learn more about what this project could mean for our local real estate market.
And as always, if you're wondering what all of this could mean for your home, your land, an investment property or your future real estate plans, just reach out.
I'm always happy to talk real estate!
